Busy Busy Busy…
Posted by Bryan Caron in Miscellaneous Stuff, Personal on May 2, 2017
I’m not sure if anyone’s noticed, but I’ve been all but MIA from social media for, oh, a couple of months now. There have been a couple of posts littered here and there throughout Instagram or Twitter, but I’ve been mostly silent on both Facebook and this very blog. (If you follow my movie reviews, you probably noticed a major dry spell between Rings and the recently posted The Circle!)
This absence hasn’t been because I chose to step away from social media. I still check my stats and see what everyone else is up to on a daily basis, and if I feel compelled, comment on posts and what have you. In fact, I schedule posts for all of my social media channels each week. No, the real reason I haven’t been social lately is because of work. What Have I been Up To?
Resolutions of Time

Another year has come to a close, so it must be time to reminisce about the year we’ve left behind and look forward to the year ahead. It’s also when a lot of people begin to make plans to once again get their weight under control, eat better and exercise more… anything and everything to be a healthier person.

Have Yourself A Merry Sci-Fi Christmas
Posted by Bryan Caron in Miscellaneous Stuff on November 13, 2015
That’s right, Christmas is once again peering its red and green eyes around the corner, and everyone’s gearing up to blow the doors off of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the three weeks between Thanksgiving and the giving holiday (well, those who celebrate it, at least). The question now is, what do you get that sci-fi lover in your life? I mean, it’s so hard to find anything in the realm of science fict… oh, who am I kidding. Let’s be real. It’s not hard to find a gift for the nerdy geek — what’s hard is choosing from the plethora of plethora of science fiction items out there.
Well, rest assured, I am here to help. As a science fiction fan (and sometimes nerd, sometimes geek and all out Star Wars fanatic), I scrounged the Internet to compile a list of five terrific gifts any true sci-fi nerd would love. I should know. I want all of these. Check Out My Gift Ideas
Chaos Ran Me Over – But I’m Healing Nicely

Hey there world!
If you follow my blog on a regular basis, you may have noticed I’ve been missing in action recently. I took a siesta (or hiatus) from movie reviews throughout the month of September, and basically stayed away from really updating anything on my blog except for an article or two here and there whenever I found the time. Part of the reason for this was because of my work – I have to try to make money, after all, so I can pay my bills, which in the long run of course must take precedence over most of everything else. Another part was a fall into the pit of a creative black hole, which basically sucked all of my energy away and led to a long bout of procrastination. And then there’s my recent jump into attempting to engage my followers with a new and improved social media schedule, which I’ve also fallen a little bit behind on. All of these things began to create a massive whirlwind of choas that, as my own blog name suggests, simply led to more chaos. I’ve learned quickly that when you have so much to do and don’t have a system in place to contain and focus all of the projects, your energy can just flutter around in the sea, keeping you from finding the Northern Star and get you back on the right path. It got so bad, I started to become worse than the absent-minded professor, forgetting to do some simple simple things — which included showing up for jury duty! Read More Now!
Sarah, Alison, Cosima and Helena (& Rachel!) Finally Get Their Due
Posted by Bryan Caron in Entertainment, Miscellaneous Stuff, Television on July 16, 2015
Congratulations to Tatiana Maslany, who received her very first (and long overdue) Emmy nomination today for her killer portrayal of not one, not two, but nine separate clones (so far) in BBC Ameirca’s Orphan Black. Each character Maslany plays is incredibly crafted so as to keep them all very distinctive, whether it’s with the voice, the hair, her cadence or all of the above — to the point that when you’re watching her play multiple characters in the same scene, you usually forget it’s the same actress in each role. Not only that, but Maslany has been able to craft incredibly diverse personalities that keep you engaged no matter who she’s playing, turning in a variety of nuanced performances that allow each one to be someone’s favorite. (For the record, my favorite is Alison!) Read More
Point Break and the Xerox Era of Hollywood
Posted by Bryan Caron in Entertainment, Film, Miscellaneous Stuff, Observances, Reviews on May 27, 2015
I just viewed the trailer for the so-called remake of the 1991 classic, Point Break, and from what I saw — there are all kinds of wrong here that need to be addressed. Before I do, here’s the trailer:
This is a remake as much as the Teletubbies are role models. Other than using the names Bodhi and Utah, there is almost no resemblance to the original film. Continue Reading!
Recognizing My Inspiration
Posted by Bryan Caron in Books, Miscellaneous Stuff, Novel, Writing on January 31, 2015
This is a bit late, I know, but I only recently received the picture!
As I’ve mentioned on several accounts, my young adult novel, In the Light of the Eclipse, was inspired by five individuals who challenged me to write a novel. I usually see them every Christmas, so I was going to give them all a signed copy of my book in 2013, however, due to some family issues, our normal Christmas Eve party was canceled and I was unable to see them all. (My niece and nephew did get theirs, though). So this past Christmas, I was delighted to be able to finally give the other three young ladies their copies, and they were just as excited to start reading.
World Chaos Roundup #1

With a new year under way, I wanted to try a little something new for my blog. Along with Movie Mayhem and the continuing adventures of Write A Novel With Me, I’m going to add a new weekly (or bi-weekly in some cases) post with my thoughts on events and news items that sparked my interest — or in some cases, my ire — as well as anything exciting that is news-worthy as it relates to my life and career. I don’t know how long this will last, or if anyone will even find it interesting, but it’s worth a shot. And please, whether you agree or disagree, don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts on these items in the comments section below.
In this, the first full full week of 2015, I will discuss the drop in movie attendance, the picks for Hall of Fame induction and a couple of movie-related items.
Baby Steps A’Plenty
Posted by Bryan Caron in Miscellaneous Stuff on October 24, 2014
If you’ve been following me on my various social media platforms over the past year, you’re aware that I’ve been slowly building my new business, Phoenix Moirai, as well as attempting to build my fan base, generating as much interest in my writing and other artistic projects as a possibly can. This means, I’ve been spending a lot of time (which more often than not has taken a small bite out of my time — and energy — needed to finish my next novel) in finding ways to network, getting my name out there and building a solid reputation that will bring in new business while keeping my current clients happy. I will admit, it’s been hard to keep the motivation levels high sometimes, especially when I lose a client (for one reason or another), when my efforts bear absolutely no fruit whatsoever, or I watch my bank account trickle away. There’s an occasional job here and a possible connection there that have so far been able to sustain me just enough, but none of them, no matter how appreciative I am for them or what might happen with them in the future, have yet to scream SUCCESS! Don’t Stop — There’s Plenty More
World Chaos Roundup #2
Posted by Bryan Caron in Entertainment, Film, Miscellaneous Stuff, Observances, Politics, Television, Wedding on January 16, 2015
This week in my World Chaos News Roundup, I discuss the exit of a dancing scream queen, the unnecessary plan to provide adults with more “free” education, and the omissions of both a beloved film from the biggest award show and a politician from the biggest march in French history.
