Chaos Movie Awards 2020

The 92nd Academy Awards are mere hours away, and the biggest news coming out of this year’s awards nominations is Netflix’s instant emergence as a heavy hitter among the major studios. Between The Irishman, Marriage Story and a handful of other prestige pics, Netflix garnered 24 nominations in their first major run at Oscar, beating all other studios (Sony came in with 20, and Disney rounded out the top three with 17). And from what I’m guessing, the Academy is going to show Netflix some big love tonight.
But enough with the numbers. Below are my picks for who will and should win at this year’s Academy Awards, as well as a few of my own awards just for the fun of it.

The 91st Academy Awards air tonight, and if there’s one thing this crop of nominees doesn’t have over previous telecasts is a clear Favourite. While trying to stay away from controversy, they drop there their host faster than a Black Panther attacking its prey, and wind up with more questions than a Blackkklansman. Trying to Bohemian Rhapsody their way out, they come off like power-hungry Vices, treating their viewers like Roma. At least they didn’t go as far as creating their own Green Book of categories that may or may not be televised. For most viewers, this year’s telecast isn’t about whether A Star Is Born, it’s finding out how insane the telecast will end up.
In other words, with all of the madness that surrounded the Oscar telecast this year, it’s hard to know who will come out as winners, but, as usual, I’m going to give it a shot, along with giving out a few special categories I created myself to highlight those moments in film that otherwise got overlooked.

The 90th Academy Awards
The Academy Awards will celebrate their 90th year this year. What does that mean? Not much. It’s just an interesting little factoid. Come back to me when the show turns 100, and then we’ll talk. Until then, awards will continue to be handed out, there will be some welcome surprises (and at least one shocker that no one sees coming), a lot of annoying political talk, and of course some predictable antics among several highly paid, talented people patting themselves on the back for over three hours.
And I can’t get enough of it!
With it all comes my predictions for this year’s main categories, as well as a few of my own special awards for those who should be recognized in categories meant more for the MTV Movie Awards than the great, prestige of the Oscars. Who Will Win?

The Oscars are about to reign awards this weekend upon the best in cinema, and though I haven’t seen a few of the nominees this year (more so than usual, in fact), that’s not going to stop me from throwing out my picks for who will win the top six categories, who should win in those races, and a few awards of my own to lighten the mood for those who just finished watching one of the many dour contenders in the race. Herewith, my predictions for the 89th Academy Awards. Who Will Win?

It’s that time of year again — Oscar time! So here now are my predictions for who and should win the major categories, along with a few of my usual secondary (and sometimes unorthodox) awards that won’t ever be part of the telecast. I only got 5 out of the 7 right last year, so I’m hoping to go 7 for 7 this year. But we’ll see tomorrow night when the stars come out and collect their trophies for the 88th time. After all of the shilling, campaigning and hobnobbing throughout award season, it all comes down to this — the show so big, it needs two names. That’s right, it’s Oscar weekend — let the predictions begin. Last year, I predicted 6 out of the top 7 categories correctly, so I have a lot to live up to with this year’s crop, which aren’t quite as easy to predict as they were last year, seeing as how there have been a variety of winners across the various award shows, and this just may be the year that some of the dark horses decide to find their stride at the end of the race. Whatever the outcome, these are my thoughts on the top categories (including links to both full reviews and mini-reviews for the majority of films that I’ve seen) as well a few of my own special awards that don’t belong anywhere near the Academy. This week in my World Chaos News Roundup, I discuss the exit of a dancing scream queen, the unnecessary plan to provide adults with more “free” education, and the omissions of both a beloved film from the biggest award show and a politician from the biggest march in French history.

The Academy Awards air this Sunday, which means it’s time for me to play prognosticator and attempt to predict who will be floating on top of the world with excitement and who will fake their way through a bevy of congratulations. Now I will say that in years past, I have a horrible record in predicting the Oscar winners, so please, take these choices as what they are — complete and utter guesses. Yes, I’ve read some materials and articles on other Oscar predictions, and I try to take into account how and with what criteria the Hollywood elite (aka, the voters) will decide, but for me at least, there’s no hard rules to what will actually happen come the live telecast. I have my biases just as everyone who votes will, and that will certainly influence my decisions. It’s all in good fun, though, and we’ll see come Monday morning if I was right or if I should just stop pretending I know anything about what Hollywood is really thinking.
Here are my predictions for the 2014 Academy Awards (as well as who I think should win, which may include actors and films that weren’t even nominated). Read on for my predictions

With all the studios halting production and theaters closing around the world for the majority of the year, one had to wonder if Hollywood would even have anything to award this year. Luckily, streaming had already made a big impact in the film industry (garnering over 24 nominations last year and a whopping 47 nominations this year, 34 by Netflix alone), so there was never going to be a complete absence of options to choose from when it came to new and exciting material.
I do have to say up front, I didn’t see a lot of the movies that were eventually nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, so attempting to pick winners will be somewhat difficult for me this year. When did that stop anyone from trying, though. Below are my picks for who will and should win at this year’s Academy Awards, and as usual, a few of my own awards for other films I thought should be highlighted.
